WHAT CAN MY BUSINESS OR ORGANIZATION DO?

There are countless ways that your business or organization can help victims of child abuse or children in foster care.

Children come into foster care most often with nothing but the clothes they are wearing.  Foster parents often agree to receive a new child into their home with less than an hour’s notice before their arrival.

Anything you can do to help is greatly appreciated.  Here are just a few ideas to get you started…

DISPLAY A BLUE RIBBON

  • Show you care about your community’s children by displaying a blue ribbon in your business window.

  • Create a prominent blue ribbon display during the month of April (Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month) and May (Foster Care Awareness Month).

  • Purchase a Blue Ribbon Pin for your employees or offer a “casual” day for employees wearing a blue ribbon during April or May.

  • Place a Blue Ribbon on your web site with an explanation of your business’ support for your community’s children and a link to www.BlueRibbons4Kids.org.

RESOURCES & EXPERTISE

Give What You Do Best

  • Donate or Volunteer your businesses’ expertise or resources to a local Foster Parent Association or Children’s Shelter.

  • Use your resources to support an appreciation event.

  • Home Services or Hardware Offer discounts to foster families whose homes realize additional wear and tear.

  • Membership Offer a discount or free membership to foster parents or provide a membership to honor a family.

  • Donate to a local organization that supports victims of child abuse, foster children or advocates for victims.

EMPLOYEE PROGRAMS

  • Provide information to your employees on how they can volunteer to help your community’s victims of child abuse and children in foster care.

  • Place Foster Parent or Court Appointed Child Advocate information in employee pay envelopes.

  • Hold a work place “slumber party” where employees bring a pair of new pajamas for children in foster care.

  • Hold a summer “Christmas” drive.

  • Let your employees know about community resources available to their families.

  • Invite speakers in to talk with employees about positive discipline and stress management.

EMPLOYMENT

Offer employment, internships or apprenticeships to teens in foster care or young adults who are leaving the foster care system.
